Moustache

I will keep updating this article if I learn something new

Let's say you are good at what you do and can't find a job, is it your fault?

First, Don't panic!

Chill out, don't panic (meme)

Life is hard right now, but if you are Muslim, you shouldn't worry about the future, just do your best and put your trust in God (tawakkul) and DREAMM BIIIIIG!

Also, detach yourself from outcomes, you can't control the outcome, you only control your actions.

🔍 Common reasons

1. ⚖️ Supply Vs Demand

If there are 100 people who can do your job and only 2 jobs in the city you want to work in, you're competing against 98 others.

Your options are:

  • Learn skills that ARE needed in your city
  • Move to other cities or countries that has less competition
  • Consider remote work (but remember: you're now competing globally with people from other countries...)

💡 Remote work advantage: If you live in a country with lower cost of living, you have a competitive advantage, you're cheaper to hire. A salary that's low for someone in US or UK could be really good money in Morocco, India, or Eastern Europe.

That's why advice like this is bad:

  • Just become a farmer, people will always need food.
  • Start a hustle podcast, people will always need motivation.

Also, the more people who can do the same job as you, the lower the salary and benefits you can ask for.

2. 📉 The economy is really bad right now

Companies are spending a lot of money on products that are unprofitable (like some AI and crypto companies) and overpaying for cloud services.

This article explains why most AI companies are losing money and not making profit

That wasted money could have been used to build products that solve real problems. Those products could make money, then grow, then they will create more jobs.

Instead, what's happening is only making the economy worse.

3. 🎤 You can't sell yourself

You might be talented, but you need to be good at selling your experience and what you can provide to the company.

💡 Example: What makes you special compared to other developers?

4. 👻 Nobody knows you exist

Being good in your bedroom doesn't pay bills. If your network is 5 people, your opportunities are limited to 5 people.

I don't like usual crowded meetups because it feels like forced socializing.

My personal way of meeting people is writing online, like sharing my opinions and knowledge on social media and my blog. And it helped me meet so many cool people.

🎥 A good video about networking:

5. 👔 The way you look

When you meet people for the first time, they judge you by your looks before your skills.

You don't need fancy clothes, just look clean and presentable. Wear nice looking clothes, basic stuff...

6. 🎯 Jumping to learning every new trend

Example:

  • 2020: learn to code
  • 2022: learn crypto
  • 2023: learn machine learning
  • 2024: learn AI agents
  • 2025: become an entrepreneur
  • 2030: learn how to use your brain
  • 2040: learn farming

See the pattern? Every year there's a "new thing" everyone says you must learn.

Research market demand. Learn what will actually advance your career, not what's trendy. Shallow knowledge of 10 things won't make you stand out.

Also, entrepreneurship is a risky career start. Get a job first, then try things in your free time.

I explained why entrepreneurship is overrated in this article.

💭 Don't be a slave to your passion

It's okay if you can't find a job in things you love, try to find a job you can do to pay the bills, even if it's not a "cool" job. There's no shame in taking delivery jobs, or retail jobs to survive.

Then, do what you love in your free time.

🚫 Advice to Avoid

1. 🤦 Just work harder bro

Yes, you should work as hard as you can, but you shouldn't harm your physical or mental health just to get faster results. Because, if you keep working like that, you will burn out every few months and you will need time to recover.

Also, if the plan you made to achieve your goal is not realistic, then you should adjust the plan to your capabilities.

"God doesn't burden a soul with more than they can bear" - Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 286

2. 🔄 Just keep applying

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"

If you apply and it didn't work, then you should stop and think about it, is it the bad market? is it your skills? interview skills?

If it's a bad market for your skills like too many people can do the same job as you, then applying would be a bad idea since most people will apply and you will be just one of them.

And most likely you will keep getting rejected because most of the time you would be filtered by CV screening....unless you are recommended by someone working at the company.

So if the job is competitive, apply only if you know a person who works at that company who can recommend you.

3. 🎓 Just get more degrees and certificates

People get degrees to delay unemployment (meme)

Yes, getting certificates and degrees can sometimes help to get an interview, but it's not a guarantee, because a lot of people will follow the same safe path, because "it's the safe thing"

Also, it doesn't make you more skilled or valuable to companies...

So before investing your time and money in this, you should ask yourself if it's really worth it, and the more risk you can take, the more you can achieve.

4. 🙏 Ask a lot of strangers for referrals

You spent years to learn a skill, and now you are asking 100 strangers for a job referral? Does that make sense?

A job means trading your time for money to survive. It's a transaction, not charity, so it shouldn't feel like BEGGING.

If you have to do it just to get a job, then something is wrong....

5. 💸 Buy My Course and I will help you find a job

People who say buy my course so I can give you the magical tip to find a job are mostly SCAMMERS.

Also, you shouldn't pay someone to give you a job. That doesn't make any sense.

You already paid with years of your time to learn a skill, why would you pay someone to give you a job?

6. 🆓 Do Me free work so I can test your skills

People who ask you to do an assignment that takes atleast 3 days to complete is nonsense, would you go to a doctor and ask him for free treatment? to "test" his skills? No, you would pay him...

So same for hiring, if they want you to work, then they must pay...

Otherwise, it's a big sign that they don't value your time and skills...

7. 💰 Choose a career based on only money

If you choose a career based on only money and you hate doing that thing, then most likely you will burn out because most jobs that pay a lot are stressful.

If those jobs were easy, they wouldn't be paying a lot...

8. 💬 Comment "interested" in my post if you are interested in the job

People who says "comment interested" in my post to get a job are people who wants to get views and likes to their post, so they get more followers and more views...

📝 Side Notes

Some jobs are fake or they already picked someone they know....the major reason why they're sharing the position online is to show that they are "growing".

Also, don't treat other's opinions as the absolute truth, use your brain and try things and see what works for you.

Conclusion

Finding a job is hard right now, and it's not always your fault. Sometimes the market is just bad.

Focus on what you CAN control:

  • Build your skills based on market demand (not trends)
  • Let people know you exist (example: write online, share your work, be active in communities on social media like Reddit, Twitter, Discord)
  • Avoid the common traps I mentioned above

Take breaks during your search. Touch grass. Do fun things. Job searching is exhausting and you'll burn out if you don't take breaks.

If you feel stuck, talk to people:

  • People who are searching for jobs (you're not alone)
  • People who recently found a job (they know what's working now...)
  • Online communities (Reddit, Discord, forums in your field)

This is just my opinion. Use your brain, try things, see what works for YOU.
